The largest content creator platform in Japan, Fantia, was subject to strict legal regulation and regulation by the relevant agencies, and declared that the standards of Marseek and censorship were fully tightened. Since 25 May 2026, creators have had to adhere to stricter requirements when reviewing the explicit content of their work and the Platform’s own review process will become “more demanding”.
The new rules apply not only to newly published content, but also to all previously published works, which are subject to amendment requirements, debarment or freezing of accounts. In extreme cases, the Platform also reports cases to the police or other relevant authorities.
Fantia is a Patreon-like subscription platform where a variety of creators, from illustrators, novelists to COSER and musicians, share their services with fans. The platform provides customized monthly membership plans and levels, as well as peripheral commodities that can be used for commissioning and marketing.

According to Fantia managers, in recent years the Platform has received “extremely harsh guidance and rectification” from the legal point of view of the relevant judicial and administrative authorities. In view of the many precedents in the past in Japan where perpetrators, even creators or platform leaders, have been convicted for failing to amend the Masake, the Platform decided to strengthen its regulation to “prevent unintended legal risks to creators”.
Under the new regulations, “Marsake must reach the level of `unvisible prototype’ of objects”. The creators must be masked with coarse particles, and the previously used treatments of semi-transparent mosaics, thin code etc. have all been found to be incompetent. The cover, thumbnail and main visual promotions of the work must be of exactly the same level of masculinity as the content body and must not be modified to attract eyeballs.

Video content creators face greater challenges. Because the video is very easy to produce “spill fish” when playing, switching frame rates or changing lens angles, and because high resolution pictures can make the prototype clearer when downsizing displays, the video and high-quality content must be processed in a much stronger and deeper mosaic than static images.
On the other hand, the creators and users of the Platform are dissatisfied with its hasty decisions. For old creators who have been active on the platform for many years and have hundreds or even thousands of historical works, the completion of full screening and recalculation within five days is “an impossible task”.
